About the artists

Yoona Kim is an ajaeng performer and composer who builds a distinctive musical world that moves between tradition and experimentation, past and present. While rooted in the temporal sensibility and sonic foundation of Korean traditional music, her work expands into the deep emotional resonance of blues, the rhythmic pulse of old-time music, and the freedom of noise and free improvisation. Based in Boston and active internationally, she approaches ajaeng not as a relic of the past but as a living voice of the present. Her playing is both resolute and delicate, shaping her own sense of time and space in every performance.

Matthew Azevedo is a Providence based composer, mastering engineer, and acoustician. Their work as Retribution Body uses custom subwoofers and modular synthesizers auralizing the architecture of performance spaces through dense fields of standing waves, crafting work that is simultaneously minimalist and overwhelming.

Femi Shonuga Fleming is an architect and sound artist from New York who works with various synthesis techniques and live coding languages to discuss the organic within electronics and technology through sound art and composition. His work explores the intersections of sound and space though spatial audio and architectural design as an experimental practice. He’s most interested in generative systems, chance, texture within sonic soundscapes. Femi’s architectural work explores indigenous ritual practice as a vessel for conversation between sound, space and interactions of the body. Femi has been performing as a solo experimental electronic improvisation artist since 2018 as sadnoise. Musical and Festival performances include Ende Tymes (2022, New York), Creative Code Festival (2020, New York), Waterworks Festival (2024), Slabfest (2024), amongst others.
