Non-Event Turns 20!

The past year has been a challenging one, but today we're celebrating a major milestone. It's the 20th anniversary of the first Non-Event, which took place on May 13, 2001 in what is now the Pozen Center at MassArt. It was an amazing show. Organized by our co-founder Dan Hirsch, it featured incendiary sets by the Japanese duo Filament (Sachiko M & Otomo Yoshihide) and the Swiss improvising supergroup poire_z (Andy Guhl & Norbert Moslang of Voice Crack with Günter Müller and Erik M).

Regrettably, we don't have any photos from this first show, although three current members of Non-Event were in attendance and the sights and sounds of that evening are indelibly burned into our memories.

Thankfully, in 2011 Brendan Murray, who has played many memorable shows with us over the years, wrote a vivid description of that first concert, which we encourage you to read here: My First Non-Event

Huge thanks and respect to our co-founders Dan Hirsch and Rob Forman. Thank you also to all the musicians (local, national, and international) who have played with us over the years and to the wonderful community that has supported us through good times and bad. It is this incredible community of artists, audience-members, volunteers, and partners that has made Non-Event possible from that first show in 2001 through the 500+ programs since.

Thank you all. There will be celebrations (and more shows!) to come...

Your friends at Non-Event,
Susanna, Danny, Ernst, Chris, Kevin, Michael, Rajen, Gilmore, Nick, Salvador, Cole, Abdul, and Wenhua
