Non-Event and the Goethe-Institut Boston present an evening of experimental music and improvisation featuring PUSHOVERS (Bryan Eubanks, serge modular synthesizer, and Jordan Topiel Paul, amplified snare drum) and MANTILLA/MELA/REICHMAN (Lautaro Mantilla, guitar; Francisco Mela, drums; Ted Reichman, accordion).

About the Artists

PUSHOVERS is an experimental music duo featuring Jordan Topiel Paul (amplified snare drum) and Bryan Eubanks (serge modular synthesizer), exploring the unstable territory between improvisation, noise, electronics, and composition. Their approach to music combines tactile sound-making, amplified snare drum, and modular synthesis, moving fluidly between microscopic detail, dense sonic mass, and abrupt shifts in form. With an emphasis on spontaneity and active listening, Paul and Eubanks create intensely physical, unpredictable performances that treat each encounter as a unique musical event.

Bryan Eubanks develops his music through solo work and collaboration. Since 1999 he has participated in many short and long term projects, and regularly presents his work internationally. Continually active in a variety of contexts: improvisation; composing electronic and acoustic works for small ensembles, solo instruments, computers, and electronics; organizing and curating concerts for other artists; building electronic instruments. He currently lives in Berlin.

Jordan Topiel Paul is a percussionist and arborist based in NYC. His work deals with the liminal space between stasis and movement.

MELA/MANTILLA REICHMANN is a Boston-based trio that brings together three deeply individual voices in contemporary improvised music: Cuban drummer Francisco Mela, Colombian guitarist Lautaro Mantilla, and American accordionist Ted Reichman. Each musician brings a distinct artistic lineage that spans experimental composition, jazz, and global musical traditions, forming a trio whose work unfolds at the intersection of structure, spontaneity, and sonic inquiry.

Francisco Mela, widely recognized as one of the most expressive drummers of his generation, has performed and recorded with leading figures in modern jazz including Joe Lovano and McCoy Tyner. His playing merges the rhythmic vitality of his Cuban heritage with the open language of contemporary jazz improvisation, combining extraordinary technical command with an instinct for risk, dialogue, and dynamic transformation. In addition to his international performing career, he serves on the faculty at Berklee College of Music.

Lautaro Mantilla explores the physical and conceptual boundaries of the guitar through extended vocal techniques and self-built electronic instruments, producing performances that are both viscerally immediate and intellectually rigorous. A member of the faculty at New England Conservatory and University of Massachusetts Boston, he is an active figure in Boston’s free improvisation community and a composer whose work reflects a deep engagement with experimental and contemporary musical practices.

Ted Reichman uses the accordion as a vehicle for experimental composition and improvisation. A longtime collaborator of Anthony Braxton and a member of John Hollenbeck’s Claudia Quintet, he has contributed significantly to the development of avant-garde music in the United States while also composing extensively for film and interdisciplinary projects. He teaches at New England Conservatory, where he works with students in both jazz and contemporary musical practices.
