About the artists
ANDY ALLEN has been navigating his way through raw and clangorous improvisation tagged as “free jazz in the spirit of lo-fi punk” in his solo project Friendship Ceremonies and in collaboration with musicians like Mia Friedman in their duo Hollow Deck, Mark Johnson, and Matt Robidoux.
ARKM FOAM (Adam Kohl) has been recording and performing solo as ARKM foam for over 20 years. Currently based in Central/Western Massachusetts, over the years he’s played in a lot of bands and improvising units, including Peace, Loving; BANG! BROS.; Knight Howls; Ten Gallon Hat; Illusion or Porpoise, and Foom & Foam.
MICKEY O’HARA is a musician from Worcester, Massachusetts. He plays in free-bloop duo Lean and noistronaut trio Floating Shapes, has worked & curated at the Firehouse, and co-hosts the freeform experimental radio show Music Under The Moon. His solo work has been released on the Baked Tapes, Moss Archive and Ayurvedic labels.
SEIYOUNG JANG is a composer, improviser, and maker currently based in Cambridge, MA. She aims to celebrate manifestations of organic forms in resistance of thoughtless sterility, with a focus on intersubjectivity and embodiment. She has studied with Laetitia Sonami, James Fei, Ted Coffey, Maggi Payne, Chris Brown, and Pauline Oliveros, among others. She obtained her MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, Oakland, CA. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Practice & Critical Inquiry at Harvard University, studying with Vijay Iyer.
ALEC TOKU WHITING is a composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist based in Somerville, Massachusetts. Primarily a koto player, his improvisatory approach is rooted in his experiences studying modern music for the instrument while growing up in Yokohama, Japan. His technique foregrounds the manipulation of timbre and its relationship to physical gesture. As a composer Alec’s work results from the investigation and synthesis of abstract formal processes and intuitive structures in pursuit of a multiplicitous musical event. He has collaborated with musicians including Mark Fell, the Mivos Quartet, Wendy Eisenberg, Ted Reichman, Jan Williams, and Alex Greffin-Klein.
