BENJAMIN NELSON was born in Maryland. Classically trained as a cellist, Nelson’s focus quickly shifted to electronic music, which he studied along with composition and theory at Northestern University (BS, 2008) in Boston. Nelson’s work is centered around the ideas of slow moving sheets of sound exploring microshifts in spectrum and phase as well as hearing fatigue and room resonance. Increasingly inspired by imaginary physical objects Nelson’s recent work has sought to take these focuses further working toward nearly static installation/performances meant to reflect hypothetical objects, spaces, and the ambient changes in their surroundings (light, temperature, angle, etc) with an emphasis on concrete structure rather than compositional process.
Nelson has toured throughout the US and Europe as both a solo performer and a member of various bands and ensembles, most recently working with the experimental theater collective Verdensteatret on their new production Broen Over Gjørme. He currently lives and works in Oslo, Norway.
ANNE-F JACQUES lives in Montreal, Canada. She is interested in amplification, erratic sound reproduction devices and construction of various contraptions and idiosyncratic systems. She often performs, alone and in various collectives (including Minibloc and Fünf), creates sound installations and makes soundtracks for Julie Doucet’s animated films. The use of low technology, trivial objects and rough sounds is particularly appreciated. Anne-F is also involved with Crustacés Tapes, a postal sound distribution project.
LAN is an electronic network that interconnects 3 humans [Joseph Bastardo, Mickey O’Hara, Seamus Williams] within a limited area [Firehouse, 91.3FM, Silent Barn, Washington Street Art Center] using various synthesis media,[Eurorack Modular, Ciat-Lonbarde ROLLZ-5, Percussion Synth, Function Generators, Horjdik Benjolin] via wires [1/4”, 1/8”, 3.5mm, alligator leads, scrap wire] and power sources [18.5v AC, +15v DC, +9v DC, 9v batteries, AA batteries].
