About

Non-Event is a Boston-based concert series devoted to the presentation of the finest in experimental, abstract, improvised, and new music from New England and around the world.

History

Founded in 2001, Non-Event has presented over 140 concerts in and around Boston in a wide variety of venues from coffee shops and loft spaces to movie palaces, university lecture halls, and an ornate Back Bay ballroom.

Non-Event has worked with numerous organizations and venues over the years, including the Art, Culture, and Technology Department at MIT; Axiom Center for New and Experimental Media; Basstown Productions; Boston Center for the Arts; the Sensory Ethnography Lab at Harvard; Massachusetts College of Art and Design; Media Lab at MIT; Mobius; the Modern Theatre at Suffolk University; New England Conservatory; Rhode Island School of Design; Semata Productions; the School at the Museum of Fine Arts; Studio Soto; and more.

Since 2009, Non-Event has collaborated closely with the Goethe-Institut Boston to produce an electronic and experimental music concert series, featuring works by German sound artists, improvisers, and composers.

Non-Event also organizes a monthly series of coffee house concerts featuring local sound artists. These are held at Café Fixe in Brookline and are made possible in part by the support of a grant from the Brookline Commission for the Arts.

Non-Event is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) corporation.
